About the Event
Everyday Behaviour Tools is a certified course developed by the Professional Crisis Management Association in Florida, and is designed for staff who work with individuals with disabilities. In June 2021 CHEO ran a pilot for 36 staff with a wide variety of professional experience in the field. Feedback from the pilot was consistent and overwhelmingly positive. Staff will leave this training with practical skills that can be applied in their day to day work. They will learn how to reduce behaviours, avoid escalating situations, and increase positive interactions with the individuals they support.
The Modules Topics Include:
- Understanding Behaviour
- Strengthening Behaviour
- Understanding Coercion (ways to get people to do things that jeopardize relationships/rapport)
- Maximizing Relationships
- Pivoting Away from ‘Junk Behaviour’
- Non-Reactive Responses
- Interrupting and Redirecting
- Setting Expectations
To pass the course, staff are required to successfully complete a practical and written exam. The practical exam requires staff to demonstrate through role play the acquisition of skills taught. On-going recertification is not required.
